Layered Stone, Crystal Pools
**The complex stratigraphy of this littoral zone** reveals thousands of years of sedimentation and mechanical weathering along the lacustrine margin. The exposed, highly fractured beds of late Precambrian sandstone display vibrant bands of oxidized iron, copper, and silicate minerals, documenting ancient environmental shifts. Continuous wave action and seasonal ice wedging have fractured the rock along natural bedding planes, creating a tiered platform of submerged ledges and tidal pools. These micro-basins catch exceptionally clear, cold water from the main lake basin, which acts as a liquid lens that magnifies the intricate green, orange, and reddish mineral hues of the underlying stones while shielding them from rapid atmospheric erosion.
