Sun-Dappled Tundra, Ancient Peaks

A fleeting beam of sunlight pierces an autumn sky, illuminating the spine of the **Franconia Ridge Trail** as it snake-walks across the exposed heights of Franconia **Notch State Park**. In the foreground, hardy cushions of wind-beaten sedge and dwarf shrubs display a rich mosaic of copper and amber, rooted precariously amidst moss-spotted granite outcrops. The rugged, scree-scarred slopes of **Mount Lincoln** plunge sharply into the vast forest valleys below, where the dense deciduous canopy is caught in a roaring wave of peak crimson and gold foliage. This delicate subalpine realm, continuously hammered by extreme alpine winds and freezing temperatures, represents a resilient outpost of wilderness where the transition of seasons is measured in vivid, brief brushstrokes.
